01 / Acids & alkalisInspect, identify, and protect.
- Before each use, visually inspect the pump, hose, and shaft seal for leaks, swelling, or cracking; replace defective equipment.
- Wear protective clothing, eye goggles, and a face shield to protect against splash or spill.
- Assign a separate pump to each chemical where possible. Beckson warns that flushing concentrated acid with water can cause an exothermic reaction.
- Use the pump only for the specific chemical use marked by the manufacturer, and secure it to the container with the appropriate adapter.
02 / Flammable liquidsControl ignition and vapors.
- Keep storage containers away from sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces; do not allow smoking in the area.
- Provide adequate ventilation, use an approved safety container, and arrange grounding connections when required for conductive containers.
- Inspect for cracks or leaks before each use.
03 / Pump height & handlingFollow Beckson’s level-height instruction.
- Do not pump to a level higher than the pump itself. Raise the container if necessary. The receptacle should always be equal to or lower than the pump.
- Always remove the pump from the container when it is not in use, and keep it away from children.
